apparently only my index page is working at the moment. Pardon me while I attempt to repair/fix things.
and 2010 is a new year, even if I am a few days late

I’m a Craftster Best of 2009 Winner!
I’d not been on craftster in a while due to other things, well honestly I’d not been on here either, trying to get better at blogging for 2010. I’d made a necklace inspired by lifesavers last year and it was very well received, and somehow, someway it made the best of 2009 on the biggest crafting community online. 10’s of thousands of wonderful projects go on craftster in the period of a year from many talented people around the world so I’m absolutely giggly/honored to be one of the 5 chosen in the Jewelry category.
I’ve pretty much been dedicating all my time to the website and marketing side of things. I have set a few goals for the new year, and have been working on trying to get my ducks in the row for this new year. #1 is to try 5 new things that I never thought I’d really do, because I don’t want to go through life wondering ‘what if’. I truly believe the biggest failure would be in not trying, and the worst that could happen is finding out I wasn’t good at something, and in the big scheme of things that isn’t such a big deal.
So the first thing I’ll be doing this year is getting on stage for 3 minutes in a comedy club for open mic night. I always thought it’d be fun and even exciting to try it out. I don’t necessarily think I’m funny but I observe funny things and hope that I can relate them in a way that they are funny to other people. Oh I’ll be recording it (or having a friend record it for me). There are two ways that it’ll be seen by the rest of the world lol, one if I make people laugh with my random observations and it’s great (that one would get posted to my facebook) OR if I bomb so heavily that it’s a grand bombing (ie: I get nervous and super drunk and get up and mutter and snort at my own jokes that no one else could understand through the drunken slurs and snorts), in that case it’ll go to you tube. I’m excited and nervous at the same time. I’ll be sure to post about how it goes even if it’s just mild laughter or a mild bomb (you just won’t get video proof then).
As for the other 4 things I’m still up in the air on those. We could call ’sober karaoke’ #1, I did that a few nights ago, but the pub was rather empty and I did it on a dare not realizing that the ‘darer’ was actually a regular karaoke singer, whereas I am not and still just sing with my ‘inside’ voice. I honestly never thought I’d sing karaoke sober but don’t know if it actually qualifies to make the list of 5. It might have to occur with a full bar and the intent on going to the bar to sing sober karaoke to make it.
So is there anything you’ve always wanted to do that you haven’t? something that you’d like to try but have let social inhibitions get in the way of? Help inspire me to find more things to add to my list by sharing yours
Until next time – April

Posted in Uncategorized on 10/23/2009 05:26 am by AprilSo here are the shirts I’ve printed the past few nights, I’m loving the screen printing machine hoping this next week I’ll have the patience/time to do a few multi color prints
Enjoy!
Sons of Anarchy
Posted in Miscellaneous Rambling on 10/21/2009 01:40 pm by AprilIf you’re a fan of the show, and aren’t up to date with watching the episodes thus far, STOP READING NOW. This post contains potential spoilers.
I have obsessed over this show since it started last year, now we’re 8 shows into the 2nd season and being told someone close to the club will bite the dust in the next episode. Here are the details that were released via E!
1. It’s not Chibs (thank god I love him lol!)
2. It’s a well loved character that is close to the club and has been with us since season one. And it’ll involve blood and brains.
The ‘teasers’ for next week want us to believe it’ll be Jax that gets the axe (or rather the bullet in the brain) But using common sense, I think we all know if they killed off Jax, it’d be the death of the show.
Our intergal characters (with plot and story line that are built up and aren’t expendable) are:
Clay, Gemma, Tera, Jax, Opie
So I think we can safely eliminate those 5 from the chopping block, for obvious reasons.
Chibs was eliminated already as the potential death, so I think it’s safe to say he’s ’safe’.
That leaves us with
Tig, Juice, Bobby, Piney, Prospect (half-sack), Uncer, Hale, Agent Stahl, Luanne, Otto
Otto has only been in 3 episodes and is in prison and blind now for all we know, makes him a good target but I don’t know if he would fit in the ‘well loved category, so writing him off as ‘not likely’
Tig is the ‘ruthless’ aspect, and unless the show is going to climax the discovery of Opie that Tig killed his wife, I can’t see Tig biting the bullet just yet (as he plays a large part in Opie’s ongoing story line)
Juice offers comedic relief (and prospect too for that matter), and without those two, the balance of the show would be off,
Bobby is well, he’s Bobby. Can you imagine the show without him? He’s the big lovable Teddy bear that every MC club has to have. Plus he’s an important pawn in the battle between Clay and Jax. I can’t see Jax being able to move forward without Bobby.
From the crew, that leaves Piney. I think if it’s actually a member of the club, it’d likely be Piney that disappears. This week he was ‘away at the cabin’ and Opie made a comment about ‘how he is’ Piney is ill, and I could see how he could confront the club about the Donna situation, and things heat up with Clay, and Piney take the fall. (I see this being aggitated by the reappearance of Agent Stahl and her wanting to pick at sores that Hale inadvertently put in her hands).
Which brings us to Uncer, he’s been on his way out for awhile, with his illness, I could see in his ‘I just don’t care anymore’ attitude, stepping in to sacrifice himself to save someone else in the club. And with Hale making the changes he has in his mentality, with the realization of the purpose the club serves for Charming, I can see how he’s been primed to replace Uncer completely on the show in the event of Uncer’s demise. That being said, I don’t think Hale would be the candidate for elimination.
Then we have Luanne. With the drug dealer showing up this week and Opie’s reaction in stealing the drugs, and the dealer insinuating ‘it isn’t over’ I could see him coming back to raise hell, and Luanne getting up in the business and taking a bullet. She’s expendable, while great at what she does, I could see the club keeping the porn business going without her.
With Jax bringing Kohn back up to Agent Stahl, I can see a heavy reference to Kohn being Polonius, (the body no one knows where is except for Hamlet). But I think if something were to happen to two ATF agents in the lovely town of Charming, how the rain of officials onto charming would squash the currently weak club in a heartbeat.
So I can’t narrow it down to just one, but I’m fairly sure it is one of the following 3:
Uncer, Piney or Luanne.
If we ‘read more’ into the ‘close to the club’ statement, we could eliminate Piney from that line up, and if we read more into the ‘well loved’ I’d say we could eliminate Luanne from the line up too, since she is not particularly loved, leaving Uncer to take the fall. At this point, in all my thinking and watching of the show, he’s really one of the only expendable characters in SoA.
If it is a member of SAMCRO, I think it would be Piney, possibly Clay (so that the club can begin rebuilding in the original vision) but I don’t think the story is to a point yet where Clay could be safely eliminated without upsetting the balance of what makes it so great. And Piney (or possibly prospect) are really the only expendables in SAMCRO.
Yes, I lost sleep over this, and yes I probably over analyzed it all. And yes, I’m going to have a hard time waiting a week to find out who the writers of Sons of anarchy decided to off. But I really can’t imagine them killing someone off that is vital to story lines or the overall balance of the show (our comedic relief). And I’ll be biting my nails then too, simply because everyone I know that watches the show, that I could talk to about it, watches it a week behind me.
The monster in my dining room
Posted in Uncategorized on 10/16/2009 08:50 am by AprilI’m fairly sure normal people don’t have a monster in their dining rooms. Not that I had to have one in there to realize I wasn’t exactly normal, but I’m pretty sure it puts the icing on that cake.
So it’s not the monsters you’re likely used to seeing I’m sure, that is, if you’re the type that see’s such things. Nothing like the ones in the movies, but if you have a monster like this in your house, and found yourself dealing with the learning curve as I have (and ran into as many setbacks as I have as well) You’d find yourself beginning to have nightmares about the monster in your dining room. It’s been daunting and teasing me and constantly lurking there going “hahaha you can’t catch me!” However, I am still refusing to let it win.
Most recent setbacks – forgetting to flip the film, wasting 3 perfectly good pre-coated screens and having one heck of a time with wash out. So that brings us to *right here*. I decided come hell or high water, tonight was the night we would successfully get a screen done, and actually print something.
Of course, the daughter in her cuteness and general way of being, came batting her eyes. “Momma” she said in this ‘too sweet to be my daughter voice, which I’m fairly sure is her way of trying to play me (I thought that stuff only worked on daddies, but she manages to prove me wrong quite frequently).
Me: (in that I know you’re trying to play me tone) “What do you want?”
Her: (in the same tone) “Just wondering what you’re doing”
Me: (slightly annoyed she won’t just spit it out) “Trying to decide what I am going to attempt printing tonight.”
Her: (same annoyingly sweet tone) “I know what you could print, and I’d even help” [bats eyes innocently]
Me: (realizing she has gotten to the point of her sweetness) “what”
Her: [sits close to me tries to put head on my shoulder to go in for the kill] “a twilight shirt with Jacob and Bella on it, not Edward. He’s not cute, Jacob is much cuter”
Me: [trying to not roll my eyes] “okayyy, but I only have 1 screen ready it’ll be a boring one color print” I probably would have hesitated, and even flat out laughed and said no, but she even sat through all the training DVD’s with me (over 7 hours) so I figured couldn’t hurt to have a little help (not to mention my shoulder is killing me tonight after fruitlessly attempting to reclaim the screen I ruined).
Her: (giggles) that’s fine!
So we put together a design, printed it off and headed into the dark room to get it all ready. I even reminded myself “don’t forget to flip the film!” and so what did I do? I forgot to flip the film. I noticed this about 5 minutes into our exposure. I was ready to cry! But decided tonight! I would not yet again know the irritation of defeat, Tonight I would win! So we decided to tape the text portion off, and just pretend we didn’t notice it made the characters backwards lol. (It’s really not a total loss, I can print transfers as well, but I don’t yet have a heat press so I have no real use for transfers at this point in time).
So we taped the screen off, loaded up the ink and started working on printing. Using water based inks for screen printing is considerably trickier than plastisol, but the environmental benefits of doing such (not to mention the incredibly soft hand without the use of additives) make the inks better to use in the long run, and well worth the additional learning steps that we’re having to take.
The daughter backflooding the screen to keep the design wet while we set up a second print.
You’re supposed to keep it straight! (ok she’s still back flooding here lol)
and below is the eventual fruit of our labor, it’s not all but it’s the general idea of what we did accomplish:
Yeah I probably could have laid the shirt out all pretty, but I didn’t bother today, might make her model it for me later since this is the result of her overly sweet behavior. Again, not exactly like the art I rendered in Illustrator, but turned out good enough we’re going to write it off as a success (sort of). We printed it up on about 8 different shirts (have tons of them because I am addicted to shirts and have been for quite some time now lol). and then I cut some fabric panels to later use in whatever twilight project she decides to throw at me, just to keep from wasting the ink we had on the screen. Go team Venture! hahaha
And now off to dreamland, with a hope the nightmare is over. Though tomorrow night, I will attempt to do my first emulsion preperation on my own, so I’m sure I will find more monsters lurking around corners, but with any luck I will scare them first!

one of those days
Posted in Uncategorized on 10/11/2009 03:53 am by AprilI guess I could say it’s been one of those years, but I’m not up for that level of let down right now. I had expected my new printer to arrive yesterday and it did not. The UPS driver only dropped off 1 of my packages, which is annoying and irritating, I expected it yesterday, I paid for it to be here yesterday, because once again I wanted this weekend to be one where I would get the chance to play with my screen printer. I need the printer because the 3 I already have (grrrr) do not print dark enough to make transparencies. They managed to deliver the cartridge but that was it. What good is an ink cartridge without a printer to put it in right?
The screen printing machine arrived over 2 weeks ago now, and it’s been just one little thing after another getting in the way of my ability to actually sit down and play with it. On the upside, I guess, I took some of the time and updated the website here, got a new banner graphic done, and tweaked my theme so that it reflected this new look.
I’m not so sure about the pink though. I’m really not a pink kind of girl, I’m more of a green or blue girl. maybe blood red. Just definitely not pink. and absolutely positive not a purple girl.
But I feel like I’m in a state of suspended animation. There is so much I want to be doing, and so much I need to be doing and yet I look out and can’t seem to get anything done. I may work a little more on my site tonight, it’s probably a statement to the level of my nerdiness how much I enjoy tweaking code and playing with css, html, xml, xhtml, java, php, etc… But I think it is an art form of it’s own. Yeah, I know there is no physical canvas, but the metaphorical one is pretty awesome if you ask me.

Alice in Wonderland
Posted in Uncategorized on 09/29/2009 11:04 pm by AprilThe daughter wants to be Alice in wonderland for Halloween. She’s spent quite a bit of time obsessing over it, looking at costumes online and forcing me to take her to the Halloween costume shops that have popped up here recently. Most costumes they make or at least the ones we’ve seen, are on the side of either disney or slutty. Neither of which I can see her wearing.
Of course the logical choice in my mind is for her to let me make it for her. Makes perfect sense to me… but not to her. Given I have the talent and abilities to make an awesome Alice costume, that no one else would have, you would think she would be a little more apt to let me help her out and make her a wonderful costume. But she is being a real brat about it.
So today, I guess in a serious effort to waste my time I sketched up (albeit poorly) what I think would make the perfect modernized Alice costume for her. It takes the parts she likes best from the costumes she’s tried on and combines with the look she is more apt to wear. I’ll show her the drawings here in a bit when she gets home from school.
I think even if she is ‘no go’ on it, I’ll probably make it anyway- how horrible would it be as a mom to steal what your kid wants to be for Halloween and to be it as well? The image below is of the screen print image I worked about 4 hours on because I think it would be really neat to incorporate into the ensemble. It includes one of my favorite quotes from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and an image of the rabbit from the original illustrations.
Octopus Lamp
Posted in My Artistic Side on 09/24/2009 09:31 pm by AprilI’ve been in a bit of a creative rut here for a while now, just no real desire to make anything. I have misplaced the dongle to my Janome 11000 and everytime I sit down to sew, I get this horrid feeling of being completely pissed off because to replace it will cost $1200. I have this fear that if I went to replace it I would, of course, find the one I’ve misplaced. Janome made a huge mistake by requiring use of a dongle for the software access.
I have been a very faithful customer of theirs for 12 years now, and honestly because of this, I don’t see myself ever buying another product from them again. Add this to just general day to day stress, a broken down car in the driveway, a glitch in my website that made me (in a moment of clouded thought) delete everything and start over (without backing up), and a ton of other things that I don’t really care to deal with right now and I’d kind of gotten to a point of feeling like the universe was out for vengeance, not sure for what but it is a horrible feeling I’d not even wish on my worst enemy. I fear I may sound ‘poor me’ but really, I always try to find the brighter side in any situation. It’s just a little hard to find the light when there is an eclipse.
Anyway, lol on to the point
A good friend showed me something pretty cool, it was this octopus chandelier lamp and I found myself completely inspired to do something with an octopus. Which is odd, there isn’t a room in my house where something of this nature would even begin to work into the decor, sea life and a vast array of somewhat dark things don’t really mix IMHO.
Ok So this isn’t exactly what I thought I had in mind but it’s what came to life. I envisioned it being considerably larger than it is, overall it’s about 6″ wide. Definitely ran into some major challenges with it, and after completing it, have a list of things I would do differently if I were to attempt something like this again (isn’t that always the story?) Roughly put about 30 hours of straight work into it.
I’m now feeling inspired now to take on another mission, this one maybe involving a similar scene and canvas, which is completely insane, but the kind of insane that feels good and right (and potentially real fun).
So for now I’ll show you the ‘finished’ project. I’ll post again later and show the in progress shots (just trying to get finished up before the kids get home from school and my day starts to fly by). Curious – can you guess what I used to make him? I’ll give you a hint, it’s not what you’d expect and I only used 1 tool (other than my hands). In the gallery pages you can click any photo to view it super sized
